Tyler Herro Signs Extension with Miami Heat (Whoopee Do)

Tyler Herro is like my favorite white player in the NBA, and I dig him mainly for two reasons.  One is that, despite being devoid of superstar name recognition when he entered the NBA, he represented from day one.  And second is him possessing a very-specific, no-fail skillset, which is jump shooting / scoring.

So, I had to agree with Tyler when he started bitching of late about lesser players earning more.  He was drafted in 2019, and there's one other player from that class, Ja Morant himself, who has proven to be hands down better .

Some may argue that Jordan Poole, a de facto Splash Brother, is better.  But then you have to ask yourself, what would it look like if Tyler were drafted by the Warriors instead?  Some may also say Darius Garland is a superior player, though it's kinda hard to believe that he would have made the All-Star Game last season if not for the fact that it was held in Cleveland (and then afterwards, he was kinda exposed).  And as for Zion Williamson, at this point I don't even want his name mentioned in any type of intelligent basketball debate, you know, until he actually proves something in the NBA.

So I'm glad he got paid, but at the same time it's like f*ck the Heat.  Here's Tyler Herro, drafted all the way at number 13 yet the second best player in his class, and his name has been in trade talks the last two seasons, even after, as a rookie, he totally represented in the bubble.  I always believed that maybe there's somebody(s) in the Heat organization that simply, for whatever reason, doesn't like Tyler, because the way they've been treating him for the past couple of years is kinda headscratching.  One conspiracy theory, based on Pat Riley's recent comments, may be that Herro doesn't make enough of an effort defensively.  And even some of his offensive numbers have fallen off since his rookie campaign, but that can be expected when a great player is demoralized and/or uncertain about his future.

CONCLUSION

So now, after all of that, the Heat not only hit him off with a generous payday but also signed Tyler "for a straight four years", which doesn't really sound like something you would do to a player who just like a month ago, at least as far as the rumor mills went, you were willing to trade.  So for the first time in like the Heat's entire existence, they seem confused.  But now, maybe this will prove to be like an ex-factor to push this squad to the next level.  In other words I also don't particularly understand, if you have a team with Jimmy Butler on the roster, why Herro, who is supposed to be like all offense or whatever, isn't allowed to start.
