Ime Udoka Calls Out Celtics for Chucking

Head Coach Ime Udoka calling out his team yesterday is like the first time in recent NBA history that I can remember a prominent figure in the Association even acknowledging that chucking exists.  Chucking is a term that I picked up back on the playgrounds of NYC.  And what a chuck is, is like a basketball player who shoots every time he gets the ball.

Playing like that isn't good because, you know, everybody wants to be shoot sometimes.  If you don't allow teammates to shoot, they start to lose morale.  But part of being a professional basketball player is being able to make such sacrifices in the name of winning and thus making more money.  So at that level, you have to be more willing to accommodate a 'volume shooter' or however they call a chuck in the NBA.

But the other problem with chucking, why no one likes a chuck on their team, is because in the grand scheme of basketball it's harder to win playing with a chuck, especially when you're up against the deadass Splash Brothers, which is the main point Udoka is making.

Very, very, very rarely, a chuck is so good that the roster should just give in to his ball-hogging and/or hasty ways.  For instance, the second iteration of the 1990s' Bulls was largely built around Jordan's tendency to shoot.  Later that decade, the Sixers built an entire roster of non-scorers and utility players to hold down Allen Iverson (who, as if prophetically, was nicknamed "Bubba Chuck" as a baby) and got near to winning a Championship.  But what makes Steph Curry unique is that the shots he makes are so ridiculous that you don't even have to build a roster of rebounders around him.

At this point, I think it's safe to say that Steph is the greatest scorer of the last decade, even if he didn't average the most points throughout that period.  But unfortunately for the game, his success started making everybody think they can take shots like that.  Then when you combine that with the fact that this is the Lebron era, it's like now coaches can't even be like 'damn, WTF are you doing?'  And even now, it seems like Udoka doesn't have to heart to just come out and say 'this series is tied because Jayson is chucking.'  And then if Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart also gets to hoisting up shots and missing, it's like the old saying goes - two chucks don't make a right.

CONCLUSION

I'm willing to take it like a man if my prediction proves wrong and the Warriors win the series.  I'm also willing to admit that even though I never actually sleep on Steph, to this day he amazes me sometimes.  Like dudes were fouling while he was making 3 pointers, the refs (understandably) weren't making those calls, and the Warriors still won the game.

But in my defense, it's like Udoka and I agree.  The Celtics do have the ability beat the Warriors in a seven-game series in a dominant fashion.  But obviously, that's not going to happen with Tatum and others, as great as he may be he may be, getting caught up in the temptation to be hoisting them up like Steph.
