I don't believe I've ever mentioned Mikal Bridges name in this blog before, because honestly, I don't know much about him. I remember his name floating around when he was drafted a few years back and occasionally popping up here and there since. But of course there's more popular players on the Suns who have been getting most of the spotlight.
But one thing I do know is this. Every time I've had the opportunity to peep a Suns game this season, he's represented. I was really shocked when I learned when that some pundits were even suggesting that Mikal be named DPOY. That's when I really understood that this is somebody, despite knowing how good he is on one level, that I'm still sleeping on.
IMO, Bridges falls into that category of dudes who don't particularly look like he can play basketball, like being all lean and inconspicuous and shit. It's like CP3 and Devin Booker and/or DeAndre Ayton are also running around out there. And even Jae Crowder, with his dreads, seems to draw more attention Bridges. But like I said, that is also an advantage, when people and especially opposing players forget that you're on the court. In that sense, Mikal reminds me a lot of Gary Payton II offensively. And if you look at the highlights from Game 5 against the Pelicans, you'll see that Bridges was very much able to slip all up under their defense.
CONCLUSION
I'm on Bridges Wikipedia page now and see that he won a couple of NCAA Championships. But this post isn't meant to be like a biography on him.
I believe that some teams are favored by the NBA, and other aren't. And looking through this blog, you'll know what category I think the Suns fall into. But if they are going to succeed, especially in the absence of Booker, then in a way it's almost as if Bridges is more important to the equation than even CP3.
