| Hopefully Rubio's next NBA team, if any, will be one that actually appreciates him. |
Ricky Rubio is perhaps the most underrated PG of the past decade, and this is not a statement I'm making lightly. When teams underachieve, there always has to be a scapegoat. And unfortunately for Rubio, having found himself playing a prominent role on a number of underperforming rosters (having spent most of his career with the Timberwolves), he has been undervalued.
Something else that must be stressed about Ricky is that in reality, he's one of the most entertaining players in the NBA. His passes are not only consistently electrifying but also effective. Off the top of my head, the only other players I can think of with that ability are Nikola Jokic and to some extent Draymond Green. Ricky Rubio can start at PG, but he's not the type to will a team to victory, which is why I think he's been undervalued.
So with these types of players, it becomes necessary to put them on a roster where their skillsets can be most appreciated. And as I have stated numerous times, the Cavs have one of the most impressive rosters out there, especially once they added Mobley. They have four skilled "7 footers", with three of them being versatile. No other team, not even the Bucks, can make that claim.
When Colin Sexton was running the Cavs, he'd scored like 25ppg, but the team was still garbage. When Rubio is hot, everybody's gonna eat. Commentators are always talking players that "make their teammates better". There are actually very few of those in the NBA, but Rubio definitely has to be one of them.
And what he really brought to the Cavs most importantly was spirit. You have all these young, talented dudes with like no real direction and perhaps also lacking in confidence compared to more seasoned squads. It was Rubio who came to Cleveland this season and was like 'fuck it'. You know how those foreign guards are, especially the ones that are actually good players in the NBA.
So it felt like a slap to the face when they traded him to the lowly Pacers for Caris LeVert. That's why NBA execs, you know, these business leaders we trust to always make the right decision, sometimes they act just as dumb as the rest of us.
The Cavs came out the gate hot, and dudes got ahead of themselves. They're looking at Rubio like 'he's injured for the season. So let's just forget about the contribution he made to our Cinderella season and trade him for someone who can actually help us on the court. Because after all, we're contenders!', LMAO. You know, since he can't actually play he's of no value, even though he's the heart of the team.
And I have nothing against Caris LeVert. I still remember when he overachieved on the Nets. That iteration of the Nets had a number of overachievers - Spencer Dinwiddie, Jarrett Allen, D'Angelo Russell, etc., but that's a discussion for another day.
Caris LeVert is the type of player who you bring of the bench and can maybe be a Sixth Man of the Year candidate. But I personally didn't understand why if the Cavs decided to stab Rubio in the back like that, why they had to do it in the name of attaining LeVert. You know what I'm saying? There's younger dudes on the roster who deserve more playing time who also got sh*t on in the process.
CONCLUSION
Karma is a bitch, LMFAO. In the months since the Rubio trade, the Cavs have gone from feel-good story of the NBA to not even making the Playoffs. They deflated like the Wizards, and in a more spectacular fashion. And they didn't even get that preferential treatment during the Play-ins like the Pelicans did.
And the worst thing is, where do they go from here? Because once Sexton does return, him starting alongside Garland doesn't really sound like a good idea. So, I wouldn't be totally surprised if the Cavs ended up getting Rubio back.
