2023 NBA Playoffs Ruminations (8 May 2023)

THE HUMBLING OF LEBRON JAMES

The other night the Lakers straight up routed the Warriors in a game in which "Lebron James didn't take a shot in the first quarter for the first time in his NBA-record 275 playoff appearances".  I would like to believe that he has finally been incepted into play like a true PG, something that I've been arguing for the longest that LBJ needs to do if he actually wants rationalize him playing point versus bangin down low, where he's virtually unstoppable.

Maybe now that the Lakers have added so many new players - esp. D'Angelo Russell, who's basically a short 2-guard - Lebron has come to feel more confident sharing the rock.  But what I believe really made him relax like that was Bronny James concurrently committing to USC.

We've all known for years that Bronny was going to play for some college one day, no matter how good at basketball he may or may not be.  But actually signing that contract, I think it finally made Lebron realize that he has in fact aged, and there will eventually come an end to his career.  It's like now, he's finally made peace with that idea and can pass the baton to his little brother, AD, before it eventually getting to Bronny.

That said, I didn't actually see the game, but I have a hard time believing that any team can genuinely beat the Dubs by 30 points.  As I argued before, even maintaining a large lead against them is nearly impossible considering the way the Splash Bros. and even some of the other cats be hitting threes sometimes.  But, I'm just gonna leave it at that.  And I'm hoping that Lebron continues to play like this into Game 5.
